John "Jan" Lakeman was a mid 20th century Labour rights activist, perennial election candidate and former leader of the provincial Communist Party in Alberta, Canada.
Lakeman served as the President of the Edmonton association for the Canadian Labour Party Alberta branch.[1] He later left the Labour Party to help form the Communist Party.
Lakeman ran in numerous provincial and federal elections, he served as the very first leader of the Alberta Communist Party since its inception.
